What is Archetype?

An archetype is a symbol, or a story pattern that recurs in literature and evokes strong responses.

 Examples of archetypes include heroes, villains, tricksters, damsels in distress, and faithful side-kicks. These archetypes appear frequently in myths and legends.

DIRECTIONS

List at least 4 characters of the novel and then give the archetypal pattern that they represent. Give specific evidence from the text that supports the archetype.
